Overshare- West Lafayette
In the fall of 2008 Webster’s New World College Dictionary chose the word overshare as its new word of the year, citing it as both an intransitive verb and a noun. Functioning as acts and artifacts, these personal and overly-detailed revelations have become an inescapable component of social networks. Each of the overshares presented here are pulled from public profiles around the Purdue community and then are embedded into created photographic scenarios. Each image/text pairings serve as an unlikely introduction of the comment-poster to the viewer. Overshare not only imagines the context of the information shared, but questions user’s expectations of privacy surrounding social networks.
